West Bengal government to launch ‘Annapurna Bhandar’ scheme from June 1
Women in West Bengal will start receiving ₹3,000 financial assistance directly into their bank accounts, while free bus travel for women on government buses will also begin from June 1.
The West Bengal government is set to roll out the much-discussed ‘Annapurna Bhandar’ welfare scheme for women from June 1. Under the scheme, eligible women beneficiaries across the state will begin receiving financial assistance of ₹3,000 directly into their bank accounts.
The announcement comes after repeated promises made during the West Bengal Assembly election campaign by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Both leaders had assured voters that the Annapurna Bhandar social welfare scheme would be implemented if the BJP formed the government in the state.
Apart from direct financial assistance, the government has also announced free travel for women in state-run buses from June 1. Women passengers travelling on government-operated buses across West Bengal will no longer have to pay fares under the new initiative.
The scheme is being seen as a major welfare push aimed at providing financial support to women and reducing daily travel expenses. Political observers believe the move could play a significant role in strengthening the government’s outreach among women voters in the state.
Further details regarding eligibility criteria, registration procedures, and disbursement mechanisms are expected to be announced by the state government soon.
