Uttarakhand Civic Polls Announced for Three Municipal Bodies; Voting on June 9

The election process has officially begun in three municipal bodies of Uttarakhand after the State Election Commission issued a notification on Monday. The elections will take place in Narendra Nagar Municipality in Tehri district, Garhi Negi Nagar Panchayat in Udham Singh Nagar, and Pati Nagar Panchayat in Champawat.

Following the notification issued by State Election Commissioner Sushil Kumar, district-level notifications will also be released. The nomination process will begin from May 27 to May 29, during which nomination papers will be sold and submitted between 10 AM and 5 PM.

Scrutiny of nomination papers is scheduled for May 30, while candidates can withdraw their nominations on May 31 between 10 AM and 3 PM. Election symbols will be allotted on June 1.

Polling for all three civic bodies will take place on June 9, from 8 AM to 5 PM, while vote counting will begin on June 11 at 8 AM.

A total of 19 polling stations have been established across 18 wards, where 10,251 voters are expected to cast their votes.

The State Election Commission has also fixed expenditure limits for candidates. In municipalities with up to 10 wards, the spending cap is ₹6 lakh for the chairperson post and ₹80,000 for ward members. For Nagar Panchayats, candidates contesting for chairperson can spend up to ₹3 lakh, while ward members have a limit of ₹50,000.

Among the three civic bodies, Narendra Nagar has 3,596 voters across seven wards, Garhi Negi has 4,671 voters in seven wards, and Pati has 1,984 voters spread over four wards.
