Chaos Erupts During Abhishek Banerjee’s Sonarpur Visit, TMC Alleges BJP-Backed Attack
TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee was escorted out wearing a helmet after protests turned violent during his visit to meet a victim’s family in Sonarpur, West Bengal.
A political controversy erupted in West Bengal after Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee faced protests and unrest during his visit to Sonarpur to meet the family of an alleged victim.
According to reports, the situation turned chaotic as a protesting crowd raised slogans of “chor-chor” (thief-thief), hurled eggs, and engaged in pushing and shoving during Banerjee’s visit. As tensions escalated, security personnel intervened and safely escorted Abhishek Banerjee out of the area while making him wear a helmet for protection.
Following the incident, Abhishek Banerjee accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating the attack. He alleged that the protest was politically motivated and claimed that police personnel were absent from the scene despite the tense atmosphere.
Banerjee further stated that the entire incident had been captured on camera and announced plans to raise the matter before the High Court, the Governor, and other legal authorities. He emphasized that accountability must be ensured over the alleged security lapse.
The incident has once again intensified political tensions in West Bengal, with both the ruling TMC and opposition BJP expected to trade accusations over the controversy.
