Assam Elections 2026: State Fully Prepared as Voting Set for April 9

New Delhi , April 8: Assam is all set to conduct its 2026 Assembly elections in a single phase on April 9, with authorities completing extensive preparations to ensure smooth, secure, and transparent voting.

Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel confirmed that all arrangements are in place, with coordination between multiple departments and central agencies overseeing security and election expenditure.

The state has a total electorate of over 2.5 crore voters, who will choose from 722 candidates across 126 constituencies. Notably, the voter base includes more than 6.4 lakh first-time voters and over 2 lakh persons with disabilities.

To enhance transparency, all 31,490 polling booths will be monitored through live webcasting from district and Election Commission control rooms. Security has been tightened with the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) across sensitive locations.

Authorities have also ensured basic facilities at polling stations, including drinking water, seating, toilets, and accessibility for differently-abled voters. Special provisions such as postal ballots have been extended to senior citizens above 85 years and persons with disabilities, with thousands already availing the Facility.

More than 1.5 lakh polling personnel have been deployed, supported by reserve staff and backup EVMs and VVPAT machines to handle contingencies.

Officials have urged citizens to participate actively and exercise their democratic right as Assam heads into a crucial electoral contest.
