In a major security operation, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Tuesday conducted coordinated raids in the Kairana area of Shamli district, detaining five individuals suspected of espionage activities linked to Pakistan. The action was carried out by the ATS Deoband unit, triggering heightened alertness across the region.
According to sources, the raids were conducted at multiple locations in Kairana, leading to the detention of five suspects, including individuals identified as Intezaar alias “Tarzan” and Sajid. Authorities allege that the accused were involved in transmitting sensitive and classified information to handlers based in Pakistan.
Officials confirmed that all five suspects are currently being interrogated, with investigators closely examining their mobile phones and other electronic devices for evidence of communication and data transfer. The operation is being treated as part of a broader effort to counter cross-border intelligence networks and safeguard national security.
The crackdown has created a sense of concern and vigilance in the locality, with security agencies intensifying surveillance in surrounding areas. While no official statement has yet been issued detailing the nature of the information allegedly shared, authorities indicated that the matter is being taken very seriously.
Further investigations are underway to determine the extent of the network and whether additional individuals may be involved. The ATS is expected to release more details as the probe progresses.
