Pregnant Woman Stuck in Badrinath Highway Traffic Jam Delivers Baby on Roadside

A pregnant woman in Uttarakhand was forced to deliver her baby on the roadside after getting stuck in a massive traffic jam on the Badrinath National Highway in Chamoli district.

The woman, a resident of Kimana village, was being taken to a Community Health Centre for delivery when the vehicle got trapped in heavy congestion near the Joshimath police station. As the traffic remained stalled for a long time, her condition reportedly worsened, raising concerns among family members.

Seeing the seriousness of the situation, hospital authorities at the nearby Community Health Centre — located around one kilometre away — were informed. Responding quickly, nurses and medical staff rushed to the spot with essential medical equipment.

With no immediate way to reach the hospital, the medical team parked the vehicle by the roadside and safely conducted the delivery under emergency conditions. Women police personnel also helped by controlling the crowd and assisting during the process.

Following the incident, locals expressed anger over recurring traffic congestion in the Joshimath area, saying that schoolchildren, patients, and ordinary commuters regularly remain stuck in long jams, affecting emergency services.

According to doctors at the Community Health Centre in Joshimath, the traffic congestion stretched from Marwari Chowk to the Narsingh Temple route. After receiving a distress call around 5:30 pm regarding the pregnant woman in labour, staff nurses and ANMs were immediately sent to the location.

Once the traffic eased, both the mother and newborn were taken to the hospital. Officials confirmed that both are healthy and safe.
