NCERT Breaks Silence Over Textbook Shortage, Assures Quick Supply of Class 9 Books
Board says printing is underway at “war footing” as students struggle to get new NEP-based textbooks across the country
NCERT has finally responded to concerns over the shortage of Class 9 textbooks introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). The council said printing work is being carried out at a “war footing” and the supply situation will improve very soon.
Even after the beginning of the new academic session, many students are still attending school without textbooks due to delays in the availability of the revised books. The shortage comes after the introduction of a completely new syllabus and updated textbooks under NEP 2020.
NCERT admitted that the demand for the new books was much higher than expected, leading to a temporary gap between demand and supply. The board clarified that textbooks for almost all subjects have already been printed, while the Social Science book is currently in its final stage and will be released soon.
To help students and parents, NCERT has expanded access through multiple channels. Sales counters at its Delhi headquarters and regional centres will remain open even on weekends. Textbooks are also available on online platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, and the NCERT portal.
Students unable to get hard copies can download free digital versions from the NCERT website, the DIKSHA app, and ePathshala.
NCERT has also released a helpline number — 8800440559 — for students and schools facing issues in obtaining books.
