Kalka Railway Station Clerk Arrested for Allegedly Taking Bribe to Release Pending Allowance
CBI traps railway clerk after he allegedly demanded ₹10,000 to release retired trackman’s pending dues worth nearly ₹74,000.
Chandigarh, June 5: A clerk posted at Kalka Railway Station has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly accepting a bribe in exchange for releasing a retired railway employee’s pending allowance.
The accused, identified as Rajnish, was caught during a trap operation conducted by the CBI following a complaint filed by the son of the retired employee. A case has been registered against the clerk under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
According to the complaint, Himanshu Singh, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, alleged that his father, Sunder Singh, who served as a trackman at Taksal Railway Station in Himachal Pradesh, retired around three years ago but had still not received his Tough Location Allowance (TLA) dues.
An application to claim the pending amount was reportedly submitted in April 2026. During a visit to the Kalka Railway Station office in May, Himanshu was allegedly informed that his father was eligible for nearly ₹74,000 in arrears. However, the clerk allegedly demanded ₹14,000 to process the payment, which was later reduced to ₹10,000.
The complainant further alleged that the accused threatened to delay or stop the payment if the money was not paid. Following the complaint, the CBI verified the allegations and laid a trap, during which the accused was allegedly caught accepting the bribe amount.
The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation into the matter is underway.
