Air India CEO Campbell Wilson Resigns Amid Operational and Regulatory Challenges
India’s aviation sector, Campbell Wilson has reportedly resigned from his position as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India, a Tata Group-owned carrier
In a significant development in India’s aviation sector, Campbell Wilson has reportedly resigned from his position as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India, a Tata Group-owned carrier. Sources indicate that his resignation comes ahead of the completion of his tenure, which was scheduled to run until June 2027.
Wilson, who took charge in July 2022 following the airline’s return to the Tata Group, played a key role in driving structural and strategic changes within the company. During his tenure, Air India witnessed major developments, including the merger of Vistara with Air India, expansion of its aircraft fleet, and intensified competition with market leader IndiGo on key metro routes.
However, the airline has continued to face significant challenges. Air India has been grappling with financial losses, while global supply chain disruptions have impacted aircraft maintenance and overhaul processes, affecting operational efficiency.
Additionally, regulatory scrutiny intensified following a tragic aircraft accident in Ahmedabad last year that claimed 260 lives, further adding pressure on the airline’s leadership.
While an official confirmation is awaited, Wilson’s resignation marks a critical moment for Air India as it navigates a complex phase of transformation and recovery in a highly competitive aviation market.
