AAIB Downloads Learjet 45 Flight Data Recorder, CVR Under Examination After Baramati Accident
Despite the damage, the Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR), manufactured by L3-Communications, has been successfully downloaded at the AAIB’s Flight Recorder Laboratory
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has provided an update on its ongoing probe into the Learjet 45 (VT-SSK) accident that occurred at Baramati on January 28, 2026. The Bureau stated that the investigation is being conducted in strict compliance with the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules, 2017, as well as the international standards and recommended practices outlined in ICAO Annex 13. According to the AAIB, the aircraft was fitted with two independent flight recorders. However, both devices were subjected to intense heat for a prolonged duration during the accident, resulting in significant fire damage. Despite the damage, the Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR), manufactured by L3-Communications, has been successfully downloaded at the AAIB’s Flight Recorder Laboratory. The Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), produced by Honeywell, is currently undergoing detailed technical examination. The Bureau has sought assistance from the Accredited Representative of the State of Manufacture to support specialised data retrieval efforts. The AAIB emphasised that it is adhering to all prescribed technical and procedural protocols to ensure that the investigation remains comprehensive, objective, and evidence-based. Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, the Bureau said further details will be shared at an appropriate stage. The AAIB also urged stakeholders and the public to refrain from speculation while the investigation is underway.
