Suicide Attack Targets Train Carrying Pakistani Soldiers in Quetta
Deadly Blast in Balochistan Leaves Several Dead and Dozens Injured
A deadly suicide attack targeted a train carrying Pakistani military personnel in Quetta, the capital of Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan, on Sunday. The explosion reportedly struck near a railway track in the Chaman Phatak area, causing severe damage to multiple train coaches and triggering a massive rescue operation. Early reports suggest that at least 23–24 people have been killed, while over 50 others sustained injuries, many of them seriously. Authorities fear the death toll could rise further as several victims remain in critical condition.
The separatist militant group Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack, describing it as a suicide operation targeting security personnel. However, independent verification of the group’s claims remains limited. Pakistani officials said the train was carrying military personnel and their families when the blast occurred.
Emergency services rushed to the site as smoke billowed from overturned train coaches. Security forces cordoned off the area while rescue teams shifted the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment. Pakistani authorities strongly condemned the attack, calling it a major act of violence in the already volatile Balochistan region.
