Russia Open to Continued Oil Supplies to India, Says Ambassador Denis Alipov
Russia has reaffirmed its willingness to continue supplying crude oil to India
Russia has reaffirmed its willingness to continue supplying crude oil to India, highlighting the importance of the long-standing energy partnership between the two countries. Russian Ambassador to India, Denis Alipov, said Moscow remains “always open” to oil supplies to India, stressing that cooperation in the energy sector benefits both nations. Speaking on the issue of India’s oil imports, Alipov stated that decisions regarding the purchase of crude oil are made by the Indian government based on its national interests and economic needs. He added that Russia respects India’s independent foreign policy and its right to choose its energy partners.
Over the past few years, Russia has emerged as one of India’s largest suppliers of crude oil. After the geopolitical tensions following the Russia–Ukraine War, India significantly increased its imports of discounted Russian crude, which helped Indian refiners secure cost-effective energy supplies.
The ambassador also noted that Russian oil remains competitive in the global market and continues to offer economic advantages for Indian buyers. Energy cooperation, he said, is a key pillar of the broader strategic partnership between India and Russia.
India, which imports a majority of its crude oil requirements, has consistently maintained that it will purchase energy from sources that ensure affordability, stability, and energy security for its growing economy.
